The Most Common Jobs for Cisco CCNA Certified Professionals

Professionals who are certified through the Cisco CCNA program are qualified for a number of jobs in the technology field. The exams required for this certification demand that each candidate demonstrate an ability to install, configure, and operate a variety of networks, making these qualified individuals flexible workers. Successful CCNA graduates are able to troubleshoot systems, operate under a number of different protocols, and demolish threats to a network’s security. This is a broad range of skills, and the Cisco CCNA certification provides each professional with a comprehensive understanding of networks. These skills allow CCNA certificate-holders to tackle a number of technology-related occupations.

1. Network engineer – These professionals oversee the installation and maintenance of corporations’ software and networks. The CCNA certification allows these workers to troubleshoot and configure all types of systems, from Cisco to WAN accelerators. Network engineers are in charge of monitoring all systems, accounts, and security for the hiring corporation, including work with routers, switches, and servers. This is a profession of great importance in any technologically-minded company. The network engineer keeps the business online and working effectively and efficiently.

2. Network data engineer – Managing the operation of Cisco and other platform systems, a network data engineer must be able to troubleshoot potential server problems while also communicating the nature of the problems to the client and customers. Working with routers, switches, and wireless devices, this type of professional provides real-time analysis and status reports for ongoing projects. An in-depth understanding of systems and their interactions is required in order to accurately report the data.

3. Network field technician – A nomadic but extremely important position, many network field technicians are required to travel between various corporate outposts or between customers to troubleshoot system problems. These issues could vary from network support to software recovery. A network field technician has the ability to experience a wide range of technical dilemmas, and the work typically varies from day to day. This sense of flexibility and variance makes this particular area of work attractive to many CCNA certified professionals.

4. Infrastructure project manager – Typically working within an IT department, these professionals provide quality infrastructure building for a variety of corporate projects. Working on network organization and telecommunications, the infrastructure project manager needs to be able to work quickly and easily with a number of other people by traveling from one troubleshooting situation to another within a business. An understanding of servers and the way that they interact with other servers is required for a properly built infrastructure.

5. WAN administrator – Focusing mainly on the routing of cables and switches, this area of CCNA certified works primarily on WAN networks. This means that an advanced background in WAN is necessary, and troubleshooting this work is a requirement of the job. Successful WAN administrators are able to analyze complex circuits and network issues, including routing problems and designing efficient networks.

6. Network security analyst – Working with the rest of the IT department, this position involves troubleshooting the network in addition to keeping the server supported and secure. Successful analysts are able to utilize firewalls, IPS, and a variety of other security systems. Diagnostic tests and establishing corresponding issues resolutions are the main requirements for this position. Most network security analysts work independently, managing their time and working quickly and efficiently.

Individuals who have earned their Cisco CCNA certification have a variety of job prospects, and these are just a few of the most common opportunities available.
